Their assumption was, Phantoms are created by soot produced by Shadows with high soot volume. But that was wrong. And then didn't know that until John and Shaun finally showed up. And after the flower was brought up, Kate finally figured it out.

I went back to episode 3 and Rosemary's face was indeed clean right before the scorches were released. She didn't resist because Maryrose ordered her not to. Now we need to know why she did all this.

The investigation continues, and it looks like the culprit has finally been found! Man has it been an intense and thrilling investigation! I love how suspenseful it's been at the end of every episode. The more Kate and her friends delved deeper into who the culprit is, the closer they get. Finally, the culprit has been caught, and it's none other than Maryrose!
